S ix months later …

“Y ou’re going to be angry.”

Grady bit back a laugh since he didn’t think Ryker would appreciate it. “Hello to you too, baby.” Grady swore he heard Ryker roll his eyes through the phone.

“You do know some believe the word hello originates from the 1800s when hunters shouted hollo when they spotted their quarry. Even though I understand the need for wildlife management, I’m not a fan of killing things for sport.”

The way Henley stared at Grady made him realize how idiotic his smile must appear. “There’re other beasts to hunt besides the furry ones in the forest.” Henley’s eyebrows hit his hairline at Grady’s words. Grady didn’t care. Ryker’s every thought was priceless. Silence rang through the line. He could practically hear Ryker gathering his argument. Finally, Ryker sighed.

“In that case, hello, Cop. How’s your day going?”

Now, that’s what Grady was talking about. He loved Ryker’s breathless tone. “Very well. Thank you.”

At Grady’s matter-of-fact tone, Ryker didn’t miss a beat, proving how well he knew Grady. “Am I to guess you’d love to add something super naughty that I’ll have to spank you over later, but you’re currently playing basketball with Henley and he still doesn’t know about me.”

“Got it in one.”

Ryker said nothing else, making Grady feel like the lowest piece of shit. He knew he was hurting Ryker by not telling Henley, but there were things he didn’t know how to explain.

“I’ll talk to you when you get home,” Ryker said finally, shutting him down.

“Nope. You said I’d be mad. Best you do that over phone so I’ll have time to get over it.”

“Better I beg forgiveness later than ask permission,” Ryker shot back, letting Grady know exactly how pissed he was over the Henley situation.

Grady glanced in Henley’s direction once more. “That depends.” Ryker chuckled evilly. Just like that, Grady went hard, forcing him to turn his back on Henley. “Spill.”

“Fine. Do you remember that calendar I was contracted to do?”

“Yep.”

Like ripping off a bandage, Ryker spoke fast, dropping the bomb. “Found out today, they’re shooting it at the Blue Fire’s Arena.”

Grady’s back teeth locked. “Excuse me a minute,” he tossed over his shoulder at Henley and headed for the hallway outside the gym. Grady ate up the floor until he was out of earshot. “What the fuck, Ryker? You signed a contract to be in calendar for the Blue Fire’s?”

Showing a true lack of self-preservation, Ryker made things worse. “Yep. Guess who’s Mr. February?”

Grady thought he’d crack a tooth. “Alex?”

“Nope. Henley. But guess who’s Mr. July?”

Grady pinched the spot between his eyes. “Who?”

“Alex.”

Red coated Grady’s vision. He had nothing. Not anything good anyhow. He clenched his teeth to keep from saying something he couldn’t take back. Alex still hadn’t stopped with his bullshit, but he’d slowed down to a crawl. No doubt, this photo shoot would send the man right back into stalker overdrive. As the silence dragged on, Ryker finally broke.

“I didn’t know he would be a part of this when I signed.
